TACET Campus is a school safety and campus operations platform provided by TACET, Inc. ("TACET," "we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of students, families, educators, and school personnel.
This policy explains how TACET Campus handles information when schools and districts use the platform. It supplements TACET's general Privacy Policy. If a school or district has a separate data-protection agreement with TACET, that agreement governs TACET's handling of school-controlled data to the extent applicable.
1. Information We Process
Depending on the features enabled by a school or district, TACET Campus may process:
- Student and school records: Names, student or school identifiers, enrollment or class assignments, and school-provided contact information.
- Campus activity: Check-in verification results, attendance or accountability statuses, and relevant timestamps.
- Safety and incident information: Reports involving medical, behavioral, safety, security, or facility incidents, which may contain sensitive information entered by authorized personnel.
- Account and technical information: User roles, authentication identifiers, device or browser details, IP addresses, and security or diagnostic logs.
Schools determine which available features to use and what information authorized users may submit. We seek to limit collection to information needed to deliver those services.
2. How Information Is Used
TACET Campus uses school-controlled information to provide the services a school authorizes, including campus check-ins, operational coordination, safety reporting, troubleshooting, and security.
We do not sell student personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or create student profiles for unrelated commercial purposes. We do not use student information to train general-purpose AI models.
TACET Intelligence is designed to help authorized staff organize reports and follow the school's approved procedures. Decisions about students stay with school staff: TACET Intelligence does not make decisions about students or assign them risk scores.
3. School and District Control
Schools and districts retain ownership and control of their student records. TACET processes school-controlled information on their behalf, under the school's instructions and applicable agreements. Access is intended to be limited to authorized users with a legitimate operational or educational need.
Parents, guardians, and eligible students should contact their school or district to request access to, correction of, or deletion of education records. TACET will assist the school with requests as required by applicable law and contract. We may need to refer direct requests to the school to verify authorization and protect student privacy.
4. Device Check-Ins and Location
Where a school enables campus-verification features, TACET Campus may use a device's location at the time of a check-in to determine whether the device is on campus. The feature is intended to record the verification result and timestamp, not maintain a continuous location history or require real-time student tracking.
Phone-compliance features are not intended to read, record, or store the contents of students' personal calls or text messages, or their browsing or app activity. Device permissions and the precise information processed may vary by school configuration and will be disclosed where required.
5. Sensitive Information
Because incident reports can include sensitive personal or health-related details, schools should provide only information necessary for the specific safety or operational purpose.
6. Security and Service Providers
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information we process, including access restrictions and measures to protect information in storage and transit.
We may use vetted providers for hosting, authentication, communications, AI processing, and platform operations. Providers that handle student information must be subject to appropriate confidentiality, security, and use restrictions. No system can be guaranteed completely secure.
7. Retention and Deletion
We retain school-controlled information only as needed to provide authorized services, comply with school agreements, or meet applicable legal requirements. Schools may request the return, correction, or deletion of information in accordance with their agreements and the law.
When a student leaves a school or a school ends its use of TACET Campus, the applicable retention schedule and school instructions determine when records are deleted or returned. Some information may need to be preserved for a legally required period, an active incident, or an authorized legal hold. Backup deletion may follow a separate documented schedule.
8. Student Privacy Laws and Rights
TACET Campus is designed to support school and district privacy obligations under applicable laws, which may include the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and California student privacy laws, including the Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA) and California Education Code § 49073.1.
Where COPPA applies, any reliance on school authorization must be limited to permitted school-related purposes. This policy does not replace school notices, parental rights, or any legally required consent.
9. Updates and Contact
We may revise this policy as our services or legal obligations change. The current version and its last-updated date will appear on this page.
